Dr. Weijian Zhu received his medical degree from Zhejiang University School of Medicine in Hangzhou, China, where he subsequently completed an internal medicine internship and residency and served as an assistant professor before relocating to the United States. He received his doctoral degree from Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., where he also completed his first research fellowship. He then completed a second research fellowship with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
Dr. Zhu continued his studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. While there, he completed an anatomic and clinical pathology residency, a combined surgical pathology/gastrointestinal pathology fellowship, and a cytopathology fellowship.
Prior to joining United Digestive, Dr. Zhu served as a pathologist and medical director at Biopsy Diagnostics/Aurora Diagnostics, LLC. In addition, he was a pathologist for the Outpatient Surgery Center of Hilton Head in South Carolina for over 14 years. He previously held attending pathologist roles supporting Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville, SC, and Effingham Hospital in Springfield, GA.
Dr. Zhu has presented at several national meetings, and he has been published in various peer-reviewed journals, such as the American Journal of Clinical Pathology, Diagnostic Cytopathology, and the Journal of Cutaneous Pathology.
He is also a member of the College of American Pathologists, American Society for Clinical Pathology, and the Rodger C. Haggitt Gastrointestinal Pathology Society.
