Areas of Interest

Leia is a graduate of the University of South Florida in Tampa where she earned a bachelor’s degree in microbiology. She received a master’s degree in microbiology and cell science from the University of Florida in Gainesville where she also served as a graduate teaching assistant and a graduate research assistant.

After completing the physician assistant program at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Myers, Fla., she completed additional doctorate level research coursework at Butler University in Indianapolis.

Leia has been published in several scientific journals and books including Methods in Molecular Biology, PLOS Biology and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA. She holds certifications in basic and advanced cardiac life support and previously served as a certified nursing assistant at Oak Hammock in Gainesville, Fla.

She joined Gastroenterology Associates of Southwest Florida in 2024.

During PA school, I did a rotation with GIASWFL and enjoyed my time learning about GI. GI is a broad specialty and there is always more to learn. You can really help patients feel better and make a difference in their lives in this specialty as well.
