A native of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Sánchez received her medical degree from the INTEC School of Medicine in Santo Domingo. She graduated as valedictorian with summa cum laude honors. While completing her degree, she also volunteered at several non-profit organizations including outreach clinics for the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
After moving to the United States, Dr. Sánchez completed her internal medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida, where she received numerous awards for research. She was awarded “best resident” of her graduating class by her peers. Dr. Sánchez then went on to complete a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Missouri in Kansas City (UMKC), where she was granted the 2007 Presidential Award by the American College of Gastroenterology for her presentation on severe pulmonary hypertension in Whipple’s disease.
