Dr. Shepherd graduated with high honors from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, where he received a bachelor’s degree in applied biology and microbiology. After receiving his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, he completed his internal medicine residency and fellowship in gastroenterology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. In addition, he also completed a second fellowship in advanced and therapeutic endoscopy at Vanderbilt, where he became proficient in ERCP, EUS, and other advanced endoscopic procedures. During that time he served as a clinical instructor for the university.
He has been published in peer-reviewed medical journals, including Digestive Disease and Sciences and Hospital Physician and has presented posters at a number of national meetings. Dr. Shepherd is a member the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
