Areas of Interest

Dr. Garud holds a combined bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery degree from the Government Medical College and Hospital at Nagpur University in Nagpur, India, where he graduated first in his class.

After moving to the United States, Dr. Garud received a master’s degree in epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, Mass., where he also received a Presidential Scholarship award. He then completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center - Harvard Medical School in Boston. After completing a fellowship in gastroenterology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Ga., Dr. Garud returned to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center to complete a second fellowship in advanced therapeutic endoscopy.

Dr. Garud has received various academic honors, including the 2008 Presidential Poster Award at the American College of Gastroenterology’s annual international conference and the 2010 American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Video Editing Scholarship Award. He has been widely published and has contributed to several book chapters on a variety of GI topics, including ulcerative colitis, Barrett’s esophagus, chronic pancreatitis and acute diarrhea.

In addition to general gastroenterology, he has a special interest in pancreato-biliary diseases and gastrointestinal cancers. Dr. Garud also has expertise in endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), as well as single-balloon enteroscopy, and performs these procedures at the Advanced Center for GI Therapeutics.

He joined Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates in 2013.
