Dr. Cobanov completed a bachelor’s degree in human biology from La Sierra University in Riverside, Calif. and holds a Doctor of Medicine from Loma Linda University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in anatomic pathology and clinical pathology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and postgraduate fellowships in cytopathology and oncologic surgical pathology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in NY, respectively. He has held multiple positions in pathology and laboratory medicine, including most recently in Syracuse, NY, serving as Laboratory Director and Chair of Pathology at St. Joseph’s Health and Cytopathology Assistant Medical Advisor for Laboratory Alliance of Central New York. He regularly participated in multidisciplinary tumor boards.

Beyond cytopathology, Dr. Cobanov’s interests include gastrointestinal pathology and laboratory management. Dr. Cobanov has taught as a lecturer and instructor, contributing to medical education programs and courses in endocrinology, pathology and laboratory medicine, and anatomy. His articles have been published in The American Journal of Surgical Pathology and The American Surgeon.

Dr. Cobanov joined United Digestive Pathology in 2024.
