Dr. Barrie is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton where he received degrees in both microbiology and chemistry. After receiving his medical degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa, he completed his internship and residency at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and served as chief resident.
Dr. Barrie began his fellowship in research and clinical gastroenterology at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas and completed his clinical fellowship in gastroenterology at Emory University in Atlanta. In 2004, he was named an instructor in the Department of Gastroenterology at the Atlanta Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) and was named an assistant professor in 2006.
