Mohammad “Mo” Wehbi, MD
Our beloved colleague, Dr. Mohammad Wehbi, passed away on November 12, 2020, after a quiet battle with cancer. We are devastated and heartbroken by this news.
While we grieve the loss of our colleague and dear friend, we understand his wishes would be to continue to deliver uninterrupted, quality care to each one of his patients. We will honor his legacy by doing our absolute best to provide the same level of kind, compassionate care as he did for so many.

Professional Bio
A native of Lebanon, Dr. Wehbi graduated with honors from the American University of Beirut with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. During undergraduate school, he received the Institutional Award for Academic Excellence from The Hariri Foundation. After receiving his medical degree at the American University, he completed internships in both surgery and internal medicine there as well.
After moving to the United States, Dr. Wehbi completed an internship and residency at Atlanta Medical Center where he served as chief resident. While there, he was named Intern of the Year and was presented the Faculty Award for Excellence in Cardiology. He also received the Faculty Award for Outstanding Chief Resident and was named Attending Physician of the Year. He also served as an instructor in medicine at the Medical College of Georgia.
Dr. Wehbi then completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at Emory University School of Medicine where he served as chief fellow. At Emory, he was named Attending Physician of the Year and received the Golden Apple Teaching Award for Outstanding Fellow and the Presidential Award Poster from the American College of Gastroenterology. In addition, he received the Fellows’ Recognition Award from the Division of Digestive Diseases from the Emory University School of Medicine and the Hero Award from the Atlanta Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center.
More recently, Dr. Wehbi served as chief of gastroenterology at the Atlanta VA Medical Center, as well as associate professor and associate program director for gastroenterology fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine.
Dr. Wehbi was a member of the American Medical Association, the American Gastroenterological Association, the National Arab American Medical Association, the American Gastroenterology Association Academy of Educators, and the American College of Gastroenterology Academy of Educators. He also served on the Digestive Disease Week abstract review committee for the American Gastroenterological Association.
During his career, Dr. Wehbi has focused on several areas of research, including colorectal cancer screening modalities, quality improvement in the colonoscopy reporting system, demographic distributions of colorectal polyps and cancer, and colorectal cancer screening in HIV patients. He frequently presented on various GI topics, including advanced liver disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic pancreatitis, and viral hepatitis, and has been published in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, Clinical Cancer Research, Cancer Epidemiol Biomarkers, and Digestive Diseases and Sciences. In addition, he has contributed to several book chapters on topics including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and abdominal emergencies.
He was fluent in Arabic and joined Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates in 2014.
